Master’s and PGD on Swallowing Disorders’ common modules will be completed at the end of July

42 students from all over the world will be finishing all common areas of the Postgraduate Diploma and Masters Degree on Swallowing Disorders consisting in 7 Modules that cover from the bases of swallowind disorders to treatment, applied research and multidisciplinary team work.

This edition held on 2021-2022 has had a total of 42 students from different nationalities and backgrounds: 10 students enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma from Chile, Brazil, Finland, Perú, Portugal, Spain and Turkey, and 32 students from Chile, Colombia, Italy, Iran, Mexico, Portugal, Spain and Turkey of the Master’s Degree that will continue until November with the completion of the Master’s Final Project, research projects based on oropharyngeal dysphagia that they carry out with help of supervisors of the courses.

Both courses started in October 2021, being the third edition of the Master’s Degree and the sixth of the Postgraduate Diploma. Both courses are part of the Swallowing Disorders programme, offered by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in collaboration with the Fundació Salut Consorci Sanitari del Maresme, which started in 2016 with the first edition of the Postgraduate Diploma.

The main objetives of the Swallowing Disorders programme are: to spread knowledge of dysphagia amongst healthcare professionals from all over the world and to train multidisciplinary professionals in the promotion of the recognition of dysphagia for the design and application of preventive and corrective techniques.

Next edition 2022-2023 will start in October 2022. Pre-registration period is still open until 15 August. To access the pre-registration process, applicants must fill in the registration form available on the official website of the courses (www.dysphagiamasters.org) and send by email the required documents specified to the email address: office@dysphagiamasters.org

Dr.David Julius visiting Barcelona

Last Thursday 2nd June at 11:00 CEST we had the honour of the visit of Dr. David Julius, Nobel Prize in Medicine 2021, in the Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques de Catalunya i Balears (Barcelona). The event was streamed online, as a webinar, free for all interested public.

The main focus of the event was the decovery of the receptor TRPV1, that allow us to understand how heat, pungency and pain is perceived, as well as the roll of these TRP receptors (TRPV1, TRPA1, TRPM8) in different diseases and conditions.

In addition, Prof. Pere Clavé showed his research group studies’, Gastroenterology and Motility Lab, about the location and expression of these receptors in the human oropharynx, and their experience using this receptor TRP as a therapeutic goal for an active pharmacological treatment of oropharyngeal disphagia associated with aging and neurological diseases.

Webinar 29 July

Next Thursday, 29th of July, will take place a webinar with the title “Latest advances in education and research on swallowing disorders” , a 1 hour long session where will be presented som of the latest studies completed and published by the research team on Gastroenterology and Motility of Mataró’s Hospital.

This webinar will also count with an introductory session about the Masters and Postgraduate diploma on Swallowing Disorders edition 2021-2022 by the administrative coordinator.

To access, registration must be done through the form available in the “webinars” tab. You will also find the programme and schedule in the same tab.

Also, a reminder that preregistration period for the edition 2021-2022 of the Masters and Postgrad will close on August 15. To preregister, fill-in the form available in the tab “preregistration and admission” or directly by pressing the botton “preregistration course 21-22” in the main home page.

Master’s Meeting

For those who are interested in Oropharyngeal Dysphagia and thinking of the option of enrolling the PGD or Masters on Swallowing Disorders, you should register to the Masters’ Meeting.

It will take place the 26 and 27 of May, online, two afternoons with the latest updates on Swallowing Disorders and management of dysphagia. You will also be able to ask any question you may have about the Masters and PGD Programme.

Pre-registration for the edition 2021-2022 of the Masters and Postgrad Diploma on Swallowing Disorders is open!

After all challenges of 2019-2020, here is a new edition coming that will start on October with updated topics like Oropharyngeal Dysphagia in COVID19 patients and Paediatrics.

Preregistration can be completed by filling the form available in the tab ‘preregistration and admission’. You will also find a direct botton in the main page. All information about grants is available under the tab ‘Registration > Fees and grants’.

Preregistration will be open until 15 August.

WSD Week

Next December 12 is World Dysphagia Day! And what better way to celebrate it than with an access to a series of Webinars on the latest advances in swallowing disorders. You will have free access to different videos, each lasting about 15 minutes, and they will be available from December 7 to 12, both in Spanish and English. The best thing is, if you have any questions or suggestions, some of the speakers will connect to a 30-minute round table on Wednesday December 9 (in Spanish) and Thursday December 10 (in English) to discuss and clarify the questions you want live with the speakers. And don’t worry, if you don’t arrive on time, there will be a form where you can send your questions. We will answer you as soon as we can. Don’t miss it!
